I wanted to do a shoutout to a favorite film of mine I watched for pre-screening with @portlandfilm - THOSE WHO COME, WILL HEAR (Dir. Simon Plouffe). It's a gorgeous lyrical exploration of indigenous languages, and the importance of keeping these languages alive. . This film was made in Quebec and it dives deep into the First Nations history, culture, and communities of the region. Watching it from a Canadian perspective, it honors its subjects while engaging with an important conversation. . But from a general aesthetic perspective, the film adopts a unique style that conveys all this information in a beautiful and poetic way. (Imagine if this poster was moving, and you'll start to get a sense of what that's like.) It also makes great use of sound, working in eerie unsubtitled recordings of dead languages. . THOSE WHO COME, WILL HEAR is screening at 9:30PM tonight in Portland at @customblocks. Not in Portland? Keep an eye out for it - I'll share info if I see a wider opportunity to watch it.
